Equilibrium

Updated: Mar 22, 2022

It seems like balance has been a common theme lately.

So many things going on at once in a multitude of aspects of life.

Some good, some bad, but feelings of gratitude have overcome me for weeks now.

I feel as though my optimism is radiating back to me every day.

I spent days pondering what to write this month...

It just so happens that it's a leap year so my procrastination has decided to make an appearance on this 29th day of February, 2020.

Though, I don't have much to write mostly because I'm speechless at my accomplishments and am eager for my next goal..

I leave you with a recommendation to listen to Tame Impalas album titled "The Slow Rush"

1. ONE MORE YEAR- Good echos, simple opening to the album, very rhythmically easy to follow at first, but there are a lot of layers of instruments that make for an overall wavey smooth sound.

2. INSTANT DESTINY- Nostalgic sound, it gives me sepia vibes.. a light bubbly background with epic drums and swanky guitar.

3. BORDERLINE- Seems very keyboard forward with flutes accompanying in the background.. reminds me of Austin Powers.

4. POSTHUMOUS FORGIVENESS- Super slow start, easily my least favorite song. Alas, around the 4:00 minute mark, everything changes. It's a bright turnaround, new to the slow sound from the beginning of the song. It's a classic mood with twangy feels.

5. BREATHE DEEPER- The beat immediately grabs your attention... the lyrics are inspiring. There are multiple points at which the beat totally changes, yet the base melody stays the same so that everything still flows with ease. Every beat is unexpected but you can still follow along. THEN at 4:40 or so, the instruments take over and a short while later, you're taken on an electric trip out.

6. TOMORROW’S DUST- Where acoustic guitar lives, this is the track that most resembles the album cover art, in my opinion. Bongos? It's like a jungle, violins give a fairytale-like ending.

7. ON TRACK- Piano forward, a grand entrance to the starting of the beat around 1:45 the beat gets more complex, the lyrics are relatable.

8. LOST IN YESTERDAY- The guitar and bass in this song is unmatched and we have these quick drums in the background creating a symphony of controlled chaos for these empowering lyrics to flow over, it's an powerfully intense song.

9. IS IT TRUE- This song clearly tells a story, aided by a disco feel. A bit of a beat change up throughout, the keyboard takes over to freestyle on a montage of instrumentals towards the end. I mostly like the message and tone switch of the hook on this one.

10. IT MIGHT BE TIME- Drums are the star of this song. The lyrics of this song are somewhat comical to me. The drums really go insane, taking you on a psychedelic journey with moments of complete silence in between. I could imagine this song being the best live.

11. GLIMMER- After a bit of talking, a groovy rhythm takes over giving me skate rink in the 70's feelings. It's a quick song that captures the meaning of the lyrics "I just want a glimmer of hope", which is repeated throughout.

12. ONE MORE HOUR- At first slow, it builds into a monumental single sound with drums breaking it down in between... the lyrics are telling the last moments of a romance, what the past was, what the future may hold, what it all meant, if anything, and what will happen next.

I love the overall vibration of the album and the messages in the lyrics surrounding caution and the constant contemplation associated with romance. 12 songs, 12 months, 1 year 2020
